Education serves as the fundamental pillar in building a prosperous and competitive society. Beyond being a basic human right, education plays a crucial role in breaking the cycle of poverty and creating better opportunities for future generations. However, in reality, access to quality education remains a significant challenge, particularly for impoverished communities in urban areas. Unfortunately, not everyone has the same opportunity to receive a quality education.
Limited access to education in these environments is driven by various factors, including financial constraints, inadequate educational facilities, and a lack of social support and policies that effectively address the root causes of the problem. According to the 2022 ASEAN report, more than 152 million children in Southeast Asia were affected by school closures, disrupting their learning process and increasing the risk of permanent dropout, particularly among low-income families who must prioritize their economic survival. In Indonesia, the situation is even more alarming, as data from the 2022 Susenas survey reveals that over four million children lack access to education.
Despite various initiatives, such as scholarship programs and alternative schools, significant challenges remain in their implementation. Therefore, a more effective communication strategy is needed to improve access to education for marginalized communities, especially in urban poverty. Recognizing the urgency of this issue, The 13th Padjadjaran Public Relations Fair adopts the theme "From Poverty to Opportunity: Enhancing Access to Education for Marginalized Communities Affected by Urban Poverty." Through the lens of Public Relations, participants are expected to contribute by designing innovative and inclusive communication strategies, ensuring that marginalized communities have greater opportunities to access quality education.
