Liblicious is one of the annual competitions under Epicentrum. This year's theme is Empowering Marginalized Communities through Environmental Literacy to Overcome Lack of Access to Basic Resources, which consists of exhibitions and competitions. Liblicious was initiated by the Library and Information Science study program, Faculty of Communication Science, Universitas Padjadjaran. Liblicious aims to train the ability to think critically, creatively, analytically, constructively, and responsively to actual problems that are developing. Liblicious is expected to be a forum for Indonesian undergraduate students to help solve problems that are happening in society through solutions, innovative ideas, and creativity.
Poverty is a complex and multidimensional global issue. In Indonesia, 7.09 percent of the urban population, or approximately 11.64 million people, live below the poverty line, making it difficult for them to access the basic resources such as clean water, food, energy, and healthcare services. These limitations are also experienced by marginalized communities, with one of the key contributing factors being low levels of education and limited access to knowledge that could support their basic needs.
Environmental literacy can serve as a solution to address the lack of access to basic resources for marginalized communities. It encompasses not only an understanding of ecosystems but also the skills required to manage resources sustainably. By improving environmental literacy, marginalized communities can be optimally empowered to pursue and develop sustainable solutions to meet their basic needs.
Through environmental literacy education, application of simple technology, and support from various parties, the community can optimize the use of basic resources in a sustainable manner. With better understanding and skills, they are expected to be able to fulfill their basic needs and improve their standard of living.
As a follow-up to this discussion, participants as agents of change are encouraged to develop a program proposal or strategic innovation to help address poverty through an environmental literacy approach. This proposal may take the form of educational programs, skill training, the development of simple technologies, or other relevant initiatives. It is expected that the proposal will provide a sustainable solution to improving the standard of living of marginalized communities through the wise and responsible use of resources.
