Ideation is an international communication strategist program competition held by the Communication Management study program, Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, Jatinangor. Open to all active D3, D4, S1, and equivalent students from ASEAN countries, the competition invites participants to develop strategic communication solutions to minimize food insecurity among marginalized urban communities in Southeast Asia. By effectively and efficiently leveraging community empowerment, the competition aims to enhance awareness, accessibility, and sustainable food management. Ideation 2025 encourages students to think creatively, conduct in-depth research and analysis, and design the most effective communication strategies through a Communication Program Planning Proposal.
Seven out of ten ASEAN countries significantly contribute to food insecurity in Southeast Asia. Although there are both developed and developing countries, social inequality remains a major challenge, particularly for marginalized groups such as informal workers, slum residents, disabled individuals, urban poor children, and housewives. Limited education and a lack of empowerment further worsen the situation.
According to the FAO, 70% of ASEAN countries experience food insecurity, including Indonesia, where 96.1% of the productive-age population lacks nutritional literacy. Prof. Bagong of UNAIR stated that government programs are inefficient and that the limited use of available information further restricts access to nutritious food. Media involvement in nutrition education remains minimal, and multi-stakeholder contributions to food insecurity programs are still insufficient.
Ideation 2025 proposes community empowerment as a solution, placing communities at the forefront of efforts to address food insecurity. This approach includes nutrition education, raising awareness through strategic communication, and optimizing food programs by engaging stakeholders (pentahelix): government, academics, businesses, communities, and media. Active community participation ensures sustainable, long-term change.
As an output, participants will develop structured and applicable communication program planning proposals and present their strategies through a pitch deck. They will also create mockups (e.g. poster, booklet, sticker, etc). Through this approach, Ideation 2025 aims to provide concrete solutions to reduce food insecurity in marginalized urban communities across Southeast Asia.
